RSS and SEO
11/28/2008
RSS is a VERY effective SEO strategy and not many people know about it or use it.
Google recently published an SEO starter guide that gives you the basics that will get you better search ranking.
In this guide they say that the most important factor – more so than any other factor - is excellent, relevant content. And not static, old content. It has to be constantly updated, exclusive, fresh content.
This kind of content is what builds you the inbound links that Google values so highly. People link to good content. And if it’s available to them, they’ll publish that content on their sites and link back to your site.
How do you make it available? With RSS Feeds.
Why is RSS so vital?
Charlene Li, formerly Vice President and Principal Analyst at Forrester Research, said that if she had to choose to be a social technology, she’d choose RSS - because it makes everything work together. It’s the foundation of social applications and without RSS the social web would grind to a halt.
So when you plan your SEO strategy for 2009, content should be top of the list. And syndicating that content in RSS will give your SEO strategy a shot in the arm.
