What Is The Best Search Engine Visibility Strategy For Google?
06/16/2009
So you thought that you had your keyword research, internet marketing strategy, SEO and search engine visibility all nailed down for 2009. Not so fast says Matt Cutts, Google’s SEO man. There’s a lot more to it. He has reminded us that Google adopted universal search last year.
What this means is that the days of doing a web search and Google showing 10 websites are long gone. With Google universal search, the #1 search engine is displaying content from many sources including:
• Websites
• News
• Blogs
• Video
• Images
• Books
In addition, the search engines are making the search results more personalized based on the search patterns of the user.
Then there is local search. Google delivers local results on certain key words even if the user was doing a general web search. If the search term is tax attorney los angeles you will get the local results with the map as expected. However if you search for just tax attorney you will also get the local results and the map. Google knows the zip code of your computer.
Google wikisearch will be another influencer. With wikisearch, the user can “vote up” or “vote down” search results. For a search result that the user thought should be higher, the user simply uses the arrow up button on the search result and moves it up. For search results that the user didn’t like they can simply delete. I assume that Google will track all this in their massive computer systems and adjust the search results if enough people “voted” to move a listing up or down. Power to the people—very clever on Google’s part as it gives the users’ input on the search results.
Good content has been the backbone of a good SEO campaign. The game has changed but in the end, the searcher—your future customer—is looking for good content, in many different forms.
